The bomber jacket is here to stay

The bomber jacket is one of the most popular and coveted closet must-haves this year--for good reason!  This piece is the epitome of versatility.  It can be paired with just about anything, casual or fancy.  In my own experience, it was the perfect transitional piece from workday to baseball game.

That's me laughing at the idea of attempting to walk on cobblestones in these shoes.

A historical look at the bomber or flight jacket shows that it's popped up more times than flare jeans. It first debuted during the Cold War in the 1950s.  Since then bombers evolved and were re-invented several times, including appearances in military, hip hop culture, becoming a jock staple and a runway mainstay.  Most recently Kanye West, among countless other celebrities, have embraced the bomber jacket for daily use.

Personally, I can remember one particular jacket I wore in adolescence, though I didn't know to call it bomber at the time.  It was light pink satin featuring the name of my dance studio, my own name embroidered in purple and the collection of sparkly dance pins I collected at competitions over the years.  It eventually became too heavy with pins and had so many pulls for the rhinestones, but it is ingrained in my memory as a symbol of status and dance studio pride.

I spent several weeks researching for the perfect bomber to add an updated version my own collection.  From past experience, I wanted to stay away from satiny materials to avoid pulls.  I was also avoiding details like patches and lots of pockets, preferring a cleaner, more classic look.  Big surprise, I ended up with an olive green one, my current color obsession.  What sold me on this particular one is the contrasting sleeves and trim and high quality material.

Sadly, the Mets did not win, but this jacket was the perfect top layer to my Mets ensemble.

I've now worn this one bomber to work, a baseball game, weekend shopping trip, Saturday night out with the girls; there's no occasion this jacket can't take on.  I haven't attempted it as wedding attire, but something tells me Ashley Graham would approve!

My exact bomber is by Mural and still available for $74.00.  It also comes in burgundy and black.
