It Starts with a Magenta Blazer

I love clothes, shopping and feeling confident in a great outfit. I won't claim I'm a fashionista or a fashion-anything, but I ️love a perfect combination of great pieces and the confidence that results from it.

As a millennial on the go, I manage my entire closet through an app on my phone. It is my most used app, more so than Instagram or my email app. I plan my outfits out for the week every Sunday based on my schedule, the weather and how long it's been since the last time I wore an item--at least 30 days must pass before a repeat.

Do you think this all sounds crazy? I'm cool with that. My husband would be too, if I gave him a little bit more space in the closet and spent a little less on my shoe obsession.

My goal with this project is to relate to other young, type-a, shoe loving, hard working professional women who may get some small joy from my craziness and maybe even a little inspiration.

Working in product for a media company, it's easy to fall into a clothing rut.  I don't hope to compete with the team that covers fashion, but I do hope to bring some individuality to a sea of New Yorkers dressed in black or those who have committed to the jeans and t-shirt look.

For me, it starts with a magenta blazer, a piece to add some sass to my day and plan an entire outfit around.  This outfit could've been paired with a standard black blazer, but it would've been just a bit boring.  The single pop of color pulled the whole outfit together.

Commuting is real; protect your outfit to and from the office. Notice my shoe bag in hand with my umbrella.

Did I mention this is real? It was raining today, and I took that into consideration in my planning.  I have two rules for a rainy day: 1) bright colors are the best contrast to a gloomy day and 2) protect your good clothing with good rain gear.

This outfit added brightness on an otherwise gloomy day.  I felt great in my meetings with senior leadership and also chatting with my developers on our latest project.  If I had plans to meet friends after work for happy hour, this outfit (with pumps, not rain boots!) still would've done the job.

I hope that you can find your own "magenta blazer" to add some umph to your wardrobe.  It does wonders on a gloomy day.
