Bare leg dress weather is here

I've been (not very) patiently waiting for the weather to warm up enough for bare legs and bright colored dresses.  The time has finally come!  Why is this so very exciting? I'll give you several reasons.

#1:  Dresses allow for super easy power outfits and fast getting ready in the morning.  There's no need to figure out what blouse to pair with which pair of jeans.  Just throw on a cute dress, add some great accessories and shoes, and you're out the door!  Added bonus, if you're not feeling your greatest, you can choose a cute dress similar to this one to hide the tummy and feel comfortable.

#2:  I've taken a vow of no shopping for a month, and unlocking the bare leg dress section of my closet is making this month a little less painful. There's an entire section of dresses in my closet that are bright colors and patterns, thinner fabrics and poor pairings with black tights.  I'm so thankful to the weather for allowing me to finally bring these babies out!

#3:  A dress can be whatever you want it to be.  Get creative with accessories to really bring new life to a dress from past seasons or deem a new addition to your closet a power outfit.  Sneakers with dresses are so popular, not to mention comfortable, right now.  Just this morning on my way to work I saw a sequin slip dress paired with Adidas Originals--amazing!  If you're heading into a meeting, throw on a dress, pair it with heels and maybe a blazer.

I had an early morning appointment, and I knew it was supposed to be another beautiful, 70 degree spring day in New York.  These are perfect conditions for my first go of the season in the bare legged dress section! I chose this deep purple T-shirt dress.  Since the dress is quite plain, I thought pairing it with a statement necklace was an obvious choice.  I've worn this dress in the past with black, metallic, flat sandals and booties.  Today I went with these cognac open toe sandals--an amazing off-season find on major sale.

While this is clearly a very exciting time for me, I continue to put the breaks on super-summery dresses for a couple more weeks until the heat is really on.  This includes flowy maxis in vacation prints and bare arms.  Additionally, I keep really short dresses, strapless dresses and beach coverups in a completely separate part of my literal and digital closets to ensure these are never considered for work wear.

If I were not currently taking a month off from buying clothes, you would find me shopping on my lunch break for a few more warm weather dresses today.  You can never have too many!

Outfit breakdown:

  • Purple T-Shirt Dress:  Urban Outfitters (similar dress in a ton of bright colors for $88)
  • Necklace:  J.Crew Factory (I'm linking the J.Crew Factory necklace page because there are so many great options, and they are all under $25. If these were in my closet, I'd pair this dress with on of the light blue necklaces.)
  • Cognac leather open toe sandals:  Coach (similar Sam Edelman sandal with perforated leather for $150 or Via Spiga pair in suede for $195)
